Careers – Pulmonary/Critical Care

OakCare Medical Group (OakCare) is seeking a full time board certified Pulmonologist/Critical Care physician to provide inpatient and outpatient services at Highland Hospital, a member of Alameda Health System, in Oakland California.

Position: Pulmonary/Critical Care


Highland Hospital is a 168 bed acute care teaching hospital located in Oakland California, which serves as a safety-net hospital for Alameda County. There is a 24 bed mixed ICU and clinics for general pulmonary, TB and pulmonary hypertension. The hospital includes residency training programs in Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine and Orthopedics. There is also a combined fellowship in Pulmonary Critical Care Medicine with California Pacific Medical Center. The Department of Medicine is affiliated with University of California San Francisco School of Medicine and most of the staff have faculty positions there.


Services Required: (1.0 FTE)

  1. Serve as the attending physician for the ICU on a rotating basis with other Attending physicians. This includes direct patient care and supervision and teaching of medical students, interns, residents and fellows.
  2. Serve as attending physician for the pulmonary service which includes a small inpatient cohort of mostly TB patients and a consultative service for the rest of the hospital.
  3. Serve as Attending physician in the pulmonary clinics which includes direct patient care and teaching of trainees as listed above.
  4. Provide interpretation of pulmonary function tests.
  5. Deliver didactic conferences to the House staff and Attending staff as directed by the Chief of the Division and Chairperson of the Department.
  6. Participate in the development of models of care that are team based, promote continuity and improve quality of care. Participate in other quality assurance and performance improvement activities as directed by the Division and Department chairs.
  7. Participate in clinical research activities with residents and fellows and individually per interests/experience.
  8. Perform necessary and appropriate procedures customarily included within the specialty of Pulmonary Critical Care including bronchoscopy, Thoracentesis, ventilator management, etc.
  9. Help develop a program of advanced bronchoscopy techniques for the hospital.

The ideal candidate would also have interest and/or qualifications in Sleep Medicine in addition to skills in advanced bronchoscopic techniques.


  1. Valid CA Medical License.
  2. Board certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
  3. Commitment to improving medical care for the underserved.
  4. Reviewed and approved for credentialing and privileging at Highland Hospital.
  5. Leadership skills and experience.
