Dr. Gene Hern Named EMRA Residency Director of the Year
Gene Hern, MD, 2013 EMRA Residency Director of the Year – Alameda Health System (AHS) is proud to announce Highland Hospital's Residency Director, Gene Hern, MD, was recently honored with the 2013 Residency Director of the Year Award by the Emergency Medicine Residents Association (EMRA). Dr. Hern was recognized for his dedication to student and resident education, commitment to excellence, and accomplishments as program director at Highland. In addition to running one of the most respected residency programs in the country, Gene remains a skilled clinician, conducts important educational research, and is active on a national level.
According to the EMRA, “This award recognizes a residency director who serves as a role model for residents and exemplifies those qualities residents value in a mentor. This individual goes above and beyond to support resident issues, well being, and involvement not only through emergency training but through fostering active participation in organized medicine, research, and community service.”
Dr. Hern was nominated for the prestigious award by his residents and peers at Highland Hospital, and selected by a national committee among program directors from across the U.S. Dr. Hern will be recognized during the EMRA Spring Awards Reception at the 2013 annual meeting of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine on May 17, 2013.
